Raising Awareness.

The purpose of Jay’s Aim is to prevent young people dying from undiagnosed heart conditions in South-West England.

We believe that the most powerful tool at our disposal is increased public awareness, so we work hard to promote wider knowledge and understanding of little-known cardiac conditions and their symptoms. We also help to fund and publicise screening events carried out by the charity Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY). Visiting hundreds of local venues every year, CRY offers subsidised electrocardiogram and echocardiogram screenings to members of the public, saving lives by successfully diagnosing previously unnoticed conditions.

Face-to-face presentations.

Because we focus on working with young people, we give face-to-face presentations at schools, colleges, universities, sports clubs and businesses across the South-West. Our approach is to use sport as a starting point; by making the positive short- and long-term benefits of playing sport clear, we can ‘tie-in’ the importance of being properly aware of the signs and symptoms of possible cardiac conditions, so that everyone can stay safe taking part in the sporting activities they love. We also highlight the cardiac screening opportunities available. Our presentations are carefully designed to give attendees the facts they need to make their own choices; we never pressure people to attend screening events, or to take part in any other aspect of our work.

Where we present.

Schools, Colleges and Universities.

It makes sense for us to visit as many schools, colleges and universities as we can, because many life-threatening cardiac conditions become problematic from adolescence onwards. With over 15 years’ experience of working in education, the Jay’s Aim team is skilled in speaking to large groups of young people (for example, taking school assemblies). We keep our presentations current and relevant, and we also use an interactive element to ensure audience engagement. The team is fully DBS checked, with up-to-date training in safeguarding.

Sports Clubs.

We are always happy to be invited to visit sports clubs, and we can tailor our sessions to suit a group’s specific requirements (some groups may prefer an informal chat before a training session; others ask for a full presentation, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated electronic defibrillator (AED) training). Businesses.

At Jay’s Aim we take health and wellbeing in the workplace very seriously. We welcome any opportunity to spread workforce awareness of lesser-known cardiac conditions, and we’re always particularly keen to present to young, active workers employed in roles with a physical aspect.
