What is an Inherited Cardiac Condition?

Inherited cardiac conditions are passed on through genes in family members. Jay died suddenly and unexpectedly from a cardiac arrest while he was exercising; the arrest was caused by an undiagnosed inherited cardiac condition, Arrhythmogenic Cardiomyopathy (AC). This inherited cardiac condition is not well-known, and nor are its symptoms. There are other inherited cardiac conditions, and they affect people of all ages, ethnicities and fitness levels. If left untreated these conditions can be life threatening, but if diagnosed correctly they can often be managed and monitored by the medical profession.

What is CPR?

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is a life-saving skill. With a little training, anyone can use it to provide emergency aid to someone who is unconscious and has stopped breathing. If a casualty receives effective CPR as soon as they stop breathing, their chance of survival increases dramatically.

When somebody has a cardiac arrest, their chance of survival is 74% provided they receive effective CPR immediately and a defibrillator is used on them in the first 3-5 minutes
